Elliot’s beach is famous as a beautiful destination offering both a relaxed and tranquil time at the beach and sightseeing of some famous tourist destinations located nearby. Visited by people in large numbers, the beach is located in Besant Nagar, just 60 kms away from Chennai. This is a typical beach with cleanliness and not too much crowd, making it an ideal place for spending some leisurely hours, making sand castles or feeling the mist see breeze against your body.
Elliot’s beach used to be a favorite hangout spot for western tourists who needed a secluded place for semi-nude bathing. However, the beach grew in popularity amongst the locals as well and is today one of chennai’s popular hangout places. Apart from the beach itself, its enchanting territory also houses several fast food joints, small stores, shrines etc. Elliot’s beach is also known as, ‘Bessie’.
Some famous landmarks located nearby include Ashtalakshmi temple and Velanganni Church. The Ashtalakshmi temple is dedicated to Goddess Lakshmi and is different from other famous temples in the city both in terms of architecture and history wise. Erected 20 years ago, a comparatively recent addition exhibits a modern tier construction. Velanganni Church is another popular attraction located nearby. A replica of the original church at Velanganni, it is comparatively smaller in size yet highly revered by the visitors.
