The senate house is an exquisite building build during the British rule which is now famous as an important tourist destination. Located on the famous marina beach in the University of Madras complex, the building is still in decent preserved condition, although the exposure to extreme climatic conditions have taken the old sheen out of the structure.

A combination of Indo-Saracenic style, with Byzantine architectural feature was used for the architectural style to construct the building. Massive pillars, corridors and arches spread across the building with the entrances on all sides. The grandeur of the structure is enhanced by the beautiful domes of different colors.

Although once the Vice Chancellor and Registrar had their offices in the Senate House, they moved on and n other office was installed here due to its deteriorating conditions. Currently plans are underway to renovate the complex without tampering with the original style and structure.

The credit for its fascinating architecture goes to Robert Fellowes Chisholm who is regarded as the finest architect of all times. The Senate House possesses a regal charm, exquisite design and definitely a monument worth exploring and appreciating.
