Sprawling over an area of 30 hectares, Vedanthangal is famous as the oldest bird sanctuary in India. One of the prominent Bird Sanctuaries in the country, Vedanthangal enjoys a special status in the hearts of Nature lovers and bird watchers alike. A photographers heaven, the sunset views at the reserve presents a captivating view of thousands of birds returning to their nests and dotting trees. Unlike other reserves, this bird sanctuary has seen an active involvement of the nearby villagers protecting the birds in this sanctuary. They avoid any noisy activity near the bird sanctuary, a practice that is being followed since generations.

A bird watching tour inside the reserve is a memorable experience. As the sun sets, the atmosphere in the sanctuary gets filled with activities and noise of birds. The forest officials have arranged for guides and naturalist to saturate your knowledge about bird species. Over 110 species of birds including both resident & migratory are found in the reserve including Cormorant, Egrets, Grey Heron, Darter, Spoonbill, White Ibis, Open-billed Stork, Grebes, Night Herons and Grey Pelican. Vedanthagnal is indeed a must visit for every bird lovers.
